[ARCHIVED] Main Street Music Fest set for Saturday, Sept 15

Main Street Music Fest 18

The Village of Park Forest, in conjunction with the 62nd Annual Park Forest Art Fair, will host a music festival on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The lineup of bands performing includes an eclectic mix of renowned artists from Chicago and the Southland area. Enjoy a day of rock, jazz, blues and more in Downtown Park Forest! Admission is free. 

  

Rhythm System 

(11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.)

Teenage 3 piece Blues, RnB, and Neo-soul conglomerate that loves to bring the groove to their audience!

 

Kaben Kafö – Djembe drum ensemble

(Noon – 1 p.m.)

Kaben Kafö, created by Taylor, is a djembe ensemble comprised of some of Chicago’s most studied and gifted djembe/dunun professionals, getting together to breathe deeply with the intricacies, complexities and depth that are part of the deeper recesses of djembe music. This year, some very basic West African dance moves we be taught to the audience, so you can feel what djembe music serves - movement!

 

Jo Ann Daugherty Trio 

(1:20 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.)

Pianist Jo Ann Daugherty’s most recent album Bring Joy earned a 4-star review from Downbeat Magazine (January 2017) and was listed as one of their “Best Albums of 2017.” Her experience includes such varied adventures as performing in jazz festivals and clubs throughout the U.S.conducting Broadway touring shows (Jersey Boys, Motown: The Musical), arranging and music directing PBS broadcast concertsand performing in such Chicago productions as Jesus Christ Superstar at the Lyric Opera.  Trio regulars include the native Chicagoan Joshua Ramos (Ramsey Lewis) on bass and the dynamic Ryan Bennett on drums, they’ve performed at the Hyde Park Jazz Festival,  have and joined forces with vocalist Bruce A. Henry and guitarist Henry Johnson for two new tribute shows: An Acoustic Tribute to Al Jarreau and The Jazz Side of Stevie Wonder.

 

Tempero Brasileiro

(2:50 p.m. – 4 p.m.)

Tempero Brasileiro is a Brazilian music flute and guitar duo performing choro, samba and other Brazilian popular musics. “Tempero Brasileiro” means “Brazilian seasoning/flavor” and reflects the duo’s diverse background of classical (Julie Koidin) and jazz (Neal Alger) which they add to their long background in Brazilian genres. Neal Alger is one of the Chicago area’s premier jazz guitarists and Julie Koidin is one of the few Brazilian choro specialists in the U.S. with a nationally broadcast radio show on the WFMT Network – “A Joyful Cry: Brazil’s Choro Music.” They’re joined by special guest on percussion, Heitor Garcia

 

4:30 p.m. John Primer

(4:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.)

John Primer has undisputedly helped build the sound and style of Chicago blues as we know it today. The echoes of tradition bellowing from the birthplaces he played such as: Maxwell Street, Theresa's, Checkerboard and Rosa's Lounges, pulse from every chord in his fingers today. John Primer is a Chicago Blues Living Legend. The depth of history and tradition that runs in John's blood from decades of master blues classes he took from all the Blues Godfathers builds his music catalog and unique style. John Primer is still at the top of his game.
