Be Better Than Yesterday (BBTY), a new fitness and lifestyle brand, will launch its grand opening at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Park Forest Tennis and Health Club, 290 Westwood Drive.
The new business was founded by Park Forest resident David Kennerson, who first developed the idea while in college at Southern University. A former college football player, Kennerson launched BBTY as a channel of motivational YouTube videos, offering viewers “a morning cup of inspiration.”
The idea for BBTY became his personal mantra after his football career was derailed due to eligibility issues and the NFL dream ultimately didn’t materialize.
“I never failed at my dreams,” Kennerson said. “I just needed to transfer my passion. If I put the same energy into Be Better Than Yesterday as I did with football, the reward would be far greater than the regret.”
Today, BBTY offers personal training, mentoring, motivational speaking, real estate services, and a clothing line for men and women. The brand promotes holistic growth through mental, physical, and community wellness. Its mission is to help individuals discover and cultivate their best selves from the inside out.
The BBTY logo features a silhouette of Kennerson running at his NFL pro day, symbolizing perseverance and the idea that failure is not an end, but a crossroad. The company aims to connect with customers personally, inspiring them through coaching, training, and quality activewear.
Kennerson’s path to opening a Park Forest storefront began with a chance visit to the Tennis and Health Club, where he proposed offering personal training services. Today, BBTY operates during the health club’s hours, with an additional trainer, William Franklin, available to assist clients. Appointments can also be scheduled by calling 708-705-7398.
Beyond fitness, BBTY emphasizes community engagement. Kennerson said the company’s success is tied to the community's success.
“Being better than yesterday isn’t just for athletes or people who work out. It’s universal. No matter your profession, you can always find a way to improve and inspire those around you,” Kennerson said.
Kennerson added that you can learn more about his brand by visiting his website.
