An unexpected technical issue at the state level has led the Village of Park Forest to pause the distribution of its 2025 Main Street Market coupons for seniors.

The Illinois Department on Aging has temporarily halted the statewide release of Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program booklets due to problems with its coupon-processing system. This disruption has been attributed to a "technical glitch" involving AgeLinc, the Area Agency on Lincoln Land, which has rendered the coupons invalid for the time being.

As a result, Park Forest officials have suspended appointments originally scheduled, and state officials have not yet indicated when the coupons will be reactivated. Village staff is reaching out to seniors to inform them of the postponement of coupon pickups in Park Forest.

Recreation Manager Adina McCollough said she knows this is an inconvenience for seniors in the community.

"We understand these coupons help our seniors access fresh, local produce, and we share their disappointment," McCollough said. "Please be patient while state-level officials work to restore the system. We will notify everyone as soon as distribution can safely resume."

Park Forest's Main Street Market—formerly known as the Park Forest Farmers' Market—has been operating since 1974. It provides a weekly outlet for locally grown produce, artisanal goods, baked items, and crafts. The market welcomes shoppers every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., running from May 3 through Oct. 25, at 152 Main St. Once distribution resumes, it the senior coupons.

The Village had planned to begin handing out coupon booklets—each valued at $50—this month, following standard income and age eligibility requirements. The Senior Farmers Market program provides $10 coupons that can be redeemed at participating markets for fresh fruits and vegetables.

Park Forest Recreation, Parks & Community Health staff members had scheduled appointments through next Friday to accommodate eligible seniors.

While local officials await updates from the Illinois Department on Aging, McCollough confirmed that the Village will maintain appointment slots and is prepared to act: "Our doors are open, and once the pause is lifted, we'll get everyone promptly back on schedule."

Seniors are encouraged to monitor the Village's website and social media pages or contact (708) 748-2005 for updates. In the meantime, the Main Street Market continues every Saturday, accepting all other payment options until the senior coupons are valid again.
