The Park Forest Police Department held a swearing-in ceremony at Village Hall during Monday night's board meeting to welcome two new officers to the force.
Officers Austin Behrens and Rayn Abu-Romman took their oaths of office in the presence of their families, friends, and fellow officers. After the ceremony, the Park Forest Board of Trustees congratulated and welcomed them to the Village.
Officer Behrens is a native of nearby Beecher, Illinois, where he graduated from Beecher High School. During his time at BHS, he developed a passion for public service. After high school, he spent five years as a firefighter, gaining valuable experience as a first responder and helping others. Now transitioning into law enforcement, Behrens expressed his eagerness to bring his skills and commitment to the Park Forest community.
Officer Ryan Abu-Romman is the youngest of five siblings and grew up in south suburban Orland Park, Illinois. He graduated from Carl Sandburg High School and continued his education at Moraine Valley Community College, earning an associate's degree in business administration. For the past three years, he has worked in sales before pursuing his dream of becoming a police officer.
Police Chief Brian Rzyski congratulated the officers and expressed his excitement about seeing them protect and serve the community.
"It was a day of celebration, and we look forward to what these brave officers will do as we continue to focus on making Park Forest a safe community to live and work," Rzyski said.
