Greenest Region Corps

The Greenest Region Corps (GRCorps) is a new partnership between the Mayors Caucus and AmeriCorps that pairs enthusiastic volunteers with communities that have signed the GRC. The volunteers serve for 10 months and lead sustainability projects. It is partly funded by the federal CNCS and the Serve Illinois Commission.  The GRCorps was created with an understanding of both limitations and opportunities that exist in the region. Communities in the region are doing a lot to become more sustainable, but would take even more action if they had the time and resources to do it. Fortunately, there are a lot of talented individuals from diverse backgrounds looking to serve their communities and help increase the sustainability footprint of local government in our region.

The Greenest Region Corps is a program that the Village of Park Forest has participated in since 2018. The Greenest Region Corps Member assisted in the completion of the STAR Assessment/LEED for Cities Community Evaluation, completing the Climate Action and Resiliency Plan for the Village of Park Forest, supported energy efficiency programs for businesses and residents, collaborated with community gardens and educational offerings and supported the Park Forest Recycle Fest, Book Drive and FREE Pop-Up Bookstore.
