The Village of Park Forest provides residents with free COVID testing kits while supplies last.
Assistant Director of Recreation, Parks, and Community Health Margaret Lewis emphasized the importance of these kits during the holiday season. As families and friends come together for various celebrations, the likelihood of spreading viruses increases. This includes not only COVID-19 but also other respiratory illnesses like influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Lewis said the Village aims to help residents stay informed and safe as they engage in holiday activities by providing these testing kits. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure a healthier community during this busy time of year.
"We have a responsibility to safeguard ourselves and our loved ones," emphasized Lewis.
Lewis urged everyone to maintain good hygiene practices by frequently washing their hands, wearing a mask in public spaces, and staying home if they exhibit any symptoms of illness.
Additionally, Lewis mentioned that the Village currently has a limited supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) bags available for distribution. These bags are assembled and contain items such as hand sanitizer, masks, disinfectant wipes, and other supplies designed to enhance safety during the holiday season. She pointed out the importance of acting quickly, as all items will be dispensed on a first-come, first-served basis. Each COVID testing kit consists of five individual tests, and there is a limit of two kits available per person to ensure broader community access.
Residents can pick up the COVID testing kits and PPE bags at the Recreation, Parks & Community Health counter on the main level of Park Forest Village Hall.
