The Park Forest Veterans Commission will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, beginning at noon on the Village Green.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to Dining on the Green, 349 Main St. The program will open with a performance by the Bloom High School ROTC under the direction of Lt. Henderson-Shaw.
Speakers will include Park Forest Veterans Commission Chair Dr. Barbara West and Mayor Joseph A. Woods.
Following the ceremony, veterans, family members and community members are invited to a catered sit-down meal and fellowship at the Park Forest American Legion Hall on Western Avenue. The cost is $25 per person. Event organizers encourage attendees to pay in advance by contacting the Recreation, Parks, and Community Health Department at 708-748-2005 during normal business hours.
Founded in 1946 to provide housing for returning World War II servicemembers and their families, Park Forest is recognized as one of the nation’s original “G.I. Towns.” The Village’s history is closely tied to military service and post-war community development.
A Village spokesperson said the community continues to look for ways to recognize those who have served.
In recent years, Park Forest’s Veterans Day ceremonies have featured a variety of tributes, including the landing of a Vietnam-era helicopter during last year’s program.
