The Park Forest Environment Commission asks residents to nominate someone for the Katherine "Katie" Armstrong Sustainability Award.
Sustainability Coordinator Carrie Malfeo stated that she is accepting nomination forms until Nov. 1. The Katherine "Katie" Armstrong Sustainability Award recognizes an individual who is dedicated to practicing sustainable actions consciously.
Malfeo explained that the award was established in 2018 with the purpose of recognizing and highlighting the efforts of individuals and businesses within the Village who are actively working to reduce their carbon footprint. This initiative aims to bring attention to those who are making significant contributions to environmental sustainability.
"Years ago, the Environment Commission in Park Forest convened to discuss the pressing need to promote and acknowledge individuals and organizations that are actively contributing to sustainability efforts in our community," Malfeo said. "This led to the establishment of a dedicated initiative aimed at advocating for sustainable practices and recognizing the achievements of those who are making significant strides in this regard."
Malfeo mentioned that Park Forest residents, housing cooperatives, businesses, churches, and community gardens are eligible for nomination. You can nominate any entity engaging in environmental initiatives such as installing rain gardens, planting natives, installing solar, or composting.

Roughly 20 award winners have been named since 2018. A full list of previous winners is available here.
