Crews throughout Park Forest are making significant progress on various roadway and utility projects as the Village enters the height of the construction season, according to officials.
Assistant Public Works Director Nick Christie reported that paving crews are on schedule in several neighborhoods. In particular, the final asphalt surface is expected to be installed on New Salem, Monitor, Gentry, and Herndon Streets by Thursday, with sod restoration planned for October.
Work is also advancing on Tomahawk, Nauvoo, Seneca, and Somonauk Streets, where the first layer of asphalt was installed on Tuesday. Over the next three weeks, crews will be adjusting sewer structures before applying the final roadway surface, with sod restoration also set for October.
On Marquette and Onarga Streets, concrete replacement will shift to the opposite side of the roadway this week. The first asphalt layer is anticipated in approximately three weeks, followed by adjustments to sewer structures and the final asphalt layer.
In addition to road improvements, the Village is addressing underground infrastructure needs. The replacement of the Forest Brook Lift Station began this week and is expected to continue through October, which will result in construction traffic passing through the Forest Brook townhome neighborhood.
Sanitary sewer lining in the Central Basin will start in October, extending from Area J to Garden House. Christie mentioned that residents should anticipate limited disruptions aside from construction traffic.
Other ongoing projects include a water main replacement at the Fire Training Site on Orchard Drive, which began on Sept. 8, and utility work associated with the Forest Boulevard reconstruction project, set to start later this fall. Both projects are expected to have minimal impact on nearby homes.
Christie noted that final restoration work, including sod replacement across the Village, is scheduled for October as these projects near completion.
