The Village of Park Forest celebrated its 75th anniversary at Freedom Hall on Thursday night.

Hundreds of people came to the Village's cake-cutting event on the unseasonably warm evening. Mayor Joseph Woods and Village Manager Tom Mick spoke to the audience before the mayor proposed a toast to another 75 years.

Recreation, Parks & Community Health Director Kevin Adams, who also serves on the 75th Anniversary Ad-Hoc Committee, said the open house event last Thursday is just the beginning of celebrations for the year.

"The Village's 75th cake-cutting event, commemorating the date of incorporation in 1949, was a great success," Adams said. "Kudos to  Community Relations Coordinator Evelyn Randle for working behind the scenes to make the event stand out. The diversity of the Village was represented well, with both longtime Park Foresters and newer residents in attendance."

Adams added, "It was also great to see the region's elected officials and school dignitaries come out to pay respect to the rich history of our Village. I look forward to more resident participation in our anniversary-themed events as the year continues. I hope we continue highlighting how proud we are of Park Forest!"

Adams said people should mark their calendars because the committee plans other events this year to celebrate the Village's 75th anniversary.

"Residents can expect a great selection of anniversary-themed events highlighting the story of our Village's 75 years. Community favorites such as the Community Bus Tour, annual Pioneers Brunch, and Main Street Nights, including the 4th of July Celebration and Unity Day, will continue to take place, but with unique 75th Anniversary themes."
