A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING DR. CHERYL GREEN
FOR HER DEDICATION TO THE SOUTHLAND
WHEREAS, Dr. Cheryl Green has been involved in higher education for more than three decades. This included multiple posts with the University of Wisconsin, Tennessee State University, and Chicago State University; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, Dr. Green was involved in various administrative roles in the university setting. Areas of work were in counseling, career placement, budget management, and grant writing, among others; and
WHEREAS, in addition to serving the student population at several universities, Dr. Green also provided stewardship and excellent customer service for her fellow faculty and staff in serving with the University Professionals of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, her endeavoring career brought her to the Southland, wherein she was appointed as President of Governors State University in 2020. Her thoughtful and collaborative approaches continued at GSU as she strived to afford the life altering power of higher education to as many students as possible; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Green’s achievements at Governors State included the creation of a Social Justice Center, a Center for Community Media, and the opening of a College of Graduate Studies. It should be understood that such accomplishments are all the more impressive considering her tenure at GSU included navigating a global pandemic; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Green continued her emphasis on partnerships at Governors State University, building on a distinguished career that saw her serve on more than a dozen advisory boards or boards of directors. This included ensuring that GSU was an annual partner site for the Park Forest Civic Leadership Academy; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Cheryl Green recently announced her retirement from education with the goal of focusing on family life after a long-standing career of providing an invaluable service to legions of college students and university colleagues.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Joseph A. Woods, and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Park Forest, Cook and Will Counties, do hereby proclaim that the warmest appreciation be extended to Dr. Cheryl Green on the occasion of her retirement. BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that best of wishes be are offered as she now pursues other enjoyments in retirement with her family.
