Seven people will be honored by the Park Forest Historical Society at its annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Sunday.
The free event will take place at 3 p.m. on March 29 at Freedom Hall, 410 Lakewood Blvd.
Alan Franklin, Michele Johnson, Timothy “Tim” Jones, Thomas Mick, Tracy Mick, Tushar H. Pandya, and Jennifer Whitson are among this year’s inductees.
Jane Nicoll, a representative of the Historical Society, said the ceremony is both meaningful and celebratory.
“It’s always a warm, fuzzy event,” Nicoll said. “You get to hear the nominations read, and then the inductees come up and share a few words. It’s really about recognizing people who’ve done wonderful things for the community.”
Among this year’s honorees is Jones, a police officer. After living for a decade with injuries sustained in the line of duty, he died in December, making his induction especially significant, Nicoll said.
“He deserved to be recognized,” she said. “We wish we had done it sooner, but it’s important that he is honored.”
Established in 1989, the Park Forest Hall of Fame named Philip Klutznick as its first inductee—a key figure in the development of the village. The program, after several years of planning, became an annual tradition in 1994.
In the fall, community members are invited each year to submit nominations. A committee reviews these submissions and selects inductees based on their impact and service to Park Forest.
Nicoll said the Hall of Fame now includes about 200 individuals and serves as a lasting record of those who have helped shape the village.
“It’s time for people to learn about it,” she said, noting that efforts are underway to make inductee plaques more visible to the public.
Everyone is welcome—join your neighbors in honoring the achievements of this year’s Hall of Fame inductees and help celebrate the spirit and legacy of Park Forest.
