Today firefighters on B Shift along with Captain Myers visited with some special students at Mohawk School. The second graders in Ms. Werner's resource class had just spent time learning about Firefighters. She said the kids really seemed interested in the subject so she contacted the fire department to see if someone could visit. So Captain Myers arranged to meet with the children and talk with them about the fire service and of course fire safety. To cap off the event the duty shift stopped by and the children had the opportunity to see a fire engine and ambulance. The children where all excited about getting to see all the equipment and the chance to sit inside the vehicles. They really enjoyed when their teacher got strapped into the stretcher and was placed into the ambulance. There was a line of kids all waiting to pretend they were the paramedics. Of course all of these activities are aimed at easing the anxiety the children may experience in an emergency situation. Now they will remember that my teacher could do it and therefore so can I.
