The Park Forest Tennis and Health Club tennis courts are closed this week for resurfacing and maintenance. The work started on Monday and should continue through Saturday.
Brad Skoryi, the club's manager, said the tennis courts should reopen on Monday, July 17. He noted several updates are happening at the facility this week.
"Many people have asked what is the scope of the work," Skoryi said. "In addition to the tennis courts being resurfaced, we're getting new court heaters, tennis nets, scorecards, court dividers, and tennis net cords to hold the nets up."
Skoryi said the work is overdue and noted most facilities do these renovations every seven to ten years. He said the last time the Park Forest Tennis and Health Club had work done like this was roughly 17 years ago.
Additionally, Skoryi said the project is within budget.
"The capital plan was approved for $50,000," Skoryi said. "We should spend around $45,000 for the courts, nets, scorecards, and court dividers. The Heaters are on a capital plan for this fiscal year."
Skoryi said it is vital for the Village to keep the Tennis and Health Club updated because it helps the facility stay competitive.
"This will freshen up the on-court aesthetics and experience. It will help tell a story of how the Village of Park Forest enhances the facility and services for the customers and residents. The competitors, to us, may not be refreshing their courts as much, which will give us a competitive edge and a great story," Skoryi said.
Though the tennis courts are closed this week, Skoryi said the Tennis and Health Club workout area will remain open. The Park Forest Tennis and Health Club is located at 290 Westwood Drive.
