[ARCHIVED] Fire and Police Departments remind residents about fireworks in Park Forest

The Village of Park Forest is encouraging all residents to enjoy a happy and safe July 4th holiday by refraining from using fireworks.

Park Forest Fire Chief Bruce Ziegle says to leave the fireworks to the professionals.

“Most fireworks are illegal in Illinois and Park Forest has even tougher restrictions on fireworks.”

While most fireworks are illegal in Illinois, some towns do allow novelty fireworks like snakes, sparklers, smoke devices and party-poppers. Park Forest does not.

Ziegle says thousands are hurt each year in fireworks mishaps with a large number occurring during the month of July.

Those found in possession of fireworks will have them confiscated by police, and if witnessed setting off fireworks will be issued a fine up to a maximum of $750 or charged criminally for more serious incidents.
