Park Forest Garbage and Recycling Program

  • Garbage pickup for the Village is a ONE DAY VILLAGE WIDE PICK UP. 

DAYS: Tuesdays, BUT should your pick up fall ON or After the following holidays, your pick up will be delayed one day for that week only.  New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.  

Have cans out by 6:30 a.m.

Every other Tuesday is the VILLAGE WIDE Recycling Pick- Up

The Park Forest Garbage and Recycling program is through Star Disposal.  Effective January 1, 2004, the garbage collection program was changed:

  • Residents can put out an unlimited number of cans not to exceed 32 gallons in size or 40 pounds in weight when full.
  • There is no bulk pickup day, but residents may put out one large item free each week.

The yard waste program is the same.  The season is from April 1st through November 30th.  Yard Waste pick-up is the same day as the regular garbage pickup day.  You must use Star Disposal yard waste bags or put Star Disposal Yard Waste Stickers on all non-Star Disposal yard waste bags that are purchased elsewhere.  (Effective 1-1-2011) 

The yard waste bags are $2.75 and are available at:

  • Village Hall
  • Star Disposal (20 South St., Park Forest, or 1501 W. 175th St., Homewood)
  • Steger True Value
  • Park Forest Currency Exchange (on Orchard)
  • 7-11
  • Walgreen's in Park Forest
  • Stop & Shop

The Stickers are $2.25 and are available at:

  • Village Hall
  • Star Disposal (20 South St., Park Forest, or 1501 W. 175th St., Homewood)

  • Park Forest Currency Exchange (on Orchard)

  • Walgreen's in Park Forest

The Public Works crew does not pick up branches.  Branches are to be disposed of by the homeowner.  Star Disposal will pick up to four tied bundles of branches per week.  Branches are to be no larger than four (4) inch in diameter and no longer than five (5) feet in length. 

You can also rent a 90 Gallon yard waste cart.  Call Star Disposal for more information at (708) 748-8381.

Effective March 1, 2006, the recycling program was changed for Single-Family Homes only.  The blue bins will no longer be taken.  Your Green 64 Gallon cart needs to be out at 6:30 a.m. on your day.  Accepted items are:

  • Glass bottles and Jars
  • Tin and Aluminum cans
  • Type 1 and 2 Plastic Containers - the type is printed on the container
  • Newspapers, Magazines, and Catalogs
  • Telephone books
  • Card board - empty all boxes and flatten

If there is a holiday, all pick ups will be on a Wednesday that week.  Star Disposal holidays are:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
ELECTRONIC RECYCLING
As of January 1, 2012 Electronics are banned from Illinois Landfills.  Please refer to the following web page for details.
As of April 1, 2011, Will County's contractor, Vintage Tech, began offering free, convenient "Front-Door" collection service for residential electronics in a large portion of Will County.  As the year progressed, the service area expanded to cover all of Will County.  This is a three-year "Pilot Program" with funding from electronic manufacturers thanks to the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act.
