The Park Forest Fire Department encourages children to participate in this year's poster contest as the department prepares for Fire Prevention Week next month.
The contest is for children ages seven to 12 who live in the Village or attend school in Park Forest. To participate, kids can create a poster on 8.5 by 11-inch paper highlighting the Fire Prevention Week theme: "Cooking safety starts with you. Pay attention to fire prevention."
Kids can use pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, or paint to create the posters. Additionally, they must include their name, age, school name, home address, and telephone number on the back of the poster.
The posters can be dropped off during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Park Forest Fire Department at 156 Indianwood Blvd.
The Park Forest Fire Department will announce the winners at the annual Fire Prevention Week Open House on Friday, Oct 13., from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
The contest starts today through Friday, Oct 6., at 4 p.m.
The fire department hosts several family-friendly themes at the open house, including giveaways, food, bounce houses, and more. Additionally, residents will see fire prevention demonstrations and can tour the fire station.
The Park Forest Fire Department will also host a pop-up event at Somonauk Park on Oct 11., from 4 to 6 p.m. to promote fire safety during Fire Prevention Week.
